Getting lost on sunny roads, waking up to the sound of the waves or feeling closer to nature are just some of the reasons why campervan trips in Spain are becoming increasingly popular. It's a great way to discover the country's incredible coastline. Along with Portugal and France, Spain is one of the best surfing, sunbathing and water sports destinations in Europe and you'll see why.

1 sunny lunch

Recommended number of days: 2-7

The south of Spain is well known for its sunny beaches, warm weather and friendly locals. If you're going on a surfing trip, we recommend going between October and May, as the temperature is suitable and the swell is more consistent. In summer, Andalusia's beaches fill up with holidaymakers, the sun is quite strong and the waves are rare. In winter, however, things change, the beaches become quieter and the area fills up with surfers looking for a surf.

Andalusia is a vast region in the south of Spain with many interesting cities to visit, such as Seville, Malaga and Granada. Andalusia is also home to endless beaches and beautiful landscapes. If you are looking for waves, Cadiz is the place to visit. This province is home to the best surfing spots in the south of Spain and is also a mecca for kitesurfing.

2 Cádiz - provincial capital

Recommended number of days: 2-4

Cadiz is the provincial capital, a picturesque city full of colour and life. It has an important harbour and many bars and restaurants where you can sample fresh seafood. The best part? It's a great place to start your trip, as you can breathe Spanish culture in every corner. The city's beaches aren't the best, but they often have waves, so they're worth a visit if you can't wait to try the waves in the surf.

3 El Palmar - surfing town

Recommended number of days: 2-4

This beautiful surfing and relaxing beach town stretches along the coast for several kilometres. The surfing atmosphere is highlighted when the waves become static due to big swells. A good thing? Because it's a long stretch of beach, there are lots of different surf spots, so it's easy to find your spot and escape the crowds. There are also a few surf shops around, in case you accidentally leave something at home! And enjoy the sunsets right from your campervan.

4 Playa de Bolonia - surrounded by nature

Recommended number of days: 2-3

If you're looking for a place where you can disconnect and get away from it all, Bologna is the place. Surrounded by nature, this beach is well known for its beautiful dunes. It's the perfect place for a quiet siesta on the beach, with no one to disturb you. You may even decide to spend the night in this peaceful environment.

5 Tarifa - kiteboarding paradise

Recommended number of days: 2-4

Tarifa is world-famous for its wind, making it one of the best places for kitesurfing, but when the wind drops, you can find some quality waves in Tarifa, mostly in the winter season.

It is a very pretty village and well worth a visit. It is made up of small white houses surrounded by a medieval wall, and on clear days you can see the mountains of Africa on the horizon, as Morocco is only a few kilometres away.
